1975... the year that keeps on giving.

so i recently moved back to my really really really small hometown in the south.

it was the place that my parents moved to from a major city up north in the early 1970's.

when we lived here times were very tough financially and i was always told that the reason we did not attend meetings was due to the fact that we had no car / no gas for the car / could not afford repairs for the years we were there.

Silent I know you are experiencing a little shock right now. Take it from a person who went through something similar. A few years after my Dad dies I found out I may have a half brother living somewhere. He had a affair with one one his employees back in the 60's. I also found out that is why we moved from central IL to FL in 1970.

My father was what you would call a super elder. He loved talking about the evils of fornication and adultery. Everyone in the local congregations thought he was great guy. So when deep family secrets come out it is usually the children who learn of it last.

I learned our parents are just human, just like us no matter what the cult trys to convince us of otherwise. All parents have secrets they don't want their kids to find out. You just came across some accidentally. Reflect on what you have learned and remember they was bamboozled by a cult and angry about it. I hope this helps you. Take care. Still Totally ADD

Convention “Highlights” - bwhahaha!

taking a walk down memory lane at those looooonnnnngg, tedious conventions... .

(boy, they weren’t kidding when they spoke about being long-suffering and having endurance!).

but what were some of your convention highlights, or lowlights, from back in the day?.

This is the high lights of the only convention I remember. Atlanta Georgia, 1969. First talk of the convention the speaker said " we are not white, black, yellow or red people we are polka dot people" followed by a loud applause. I was 15 at the time and this made me feel special. The world was in turmoil on civil rights but all JW's was equal we didn't have that problem. I was very naive. To this day I wish the whole world felt that way. I guess I am still naive when it comes to prejudices humans have.

The other thing I remember was Atlanta Georgia in mid July. Close to 100 degrees with high humidity. Severe thunderstorms every afternoon. The rest of the day was a steam bath. Convention ran out of food, ice and drinks during the noon break. Leaving many dehydrated. We went home with what I will call sun poisoning. I took a week to get back to normal.

Boy was that fun. Root canal would have been more enjoyable. Still Totally ADD

when i do see her, it is brief, she never asks about my life, doesn't ask about my 4 children her grandchildren, doesn't ask about my grandchildren...her great grandchildren, she doesn't ask about my other 2 brothers that she is also alienated from, she doesn't ask about my brothers family.

she doesn't talk about the jw/org either.

So on my calendar I should mark January 7, 2018 @ 3:38 pm GMT. Is this correct? By the way what is GMT time? I don't want to be late for the party. This is very different from 1975 prediction because we did not have the exact date and time. Lol

I wonder if this kind of paranoia is going to be a common occurrence from this point on in this cult? I remember crazy talk about Armageddon from old friends many times when I was in. My Dad love talking about how God was going to kill everyone in great detail. Today those who have been indoctrinated for so many years appear to be suffering with a mental illness. Remember how many of us suffered with mental anxiety after leaving. This may be a problem the WT may have to deal with for a long time to come. Their own self made paranoia. Still Totally ADD

People Asking Me To Help Them Leave

i dont know if it's due to the last convention, the recent broadcasts, the internet or just plain fatigue - but since the convention i've had a few people contact me via facebook messenger asking how i am then cutting to the chase asking me what it's like "on the outside" or "how did you adjust after leaving?

" and asking me how they can leave the wt but keep their families.. my reply is always the same, i show real genuine interest and concern and listen to their situation.

then i suggest a fade, how to fade, to ignore or reject elders visits, to not talk about their doubts to active jws under any circumstances and finally point them to this site.

P.E. I find it so interesting and sad on how trap your friends are. The mental anguish they are all going through just because they don't believe the W.T.. Your experience of your friends feels like a flash back to the pass. What a terrible religion we all came from that makes us paranoid to the point we have to sneak around so we can use our own free will to live our life's as we want.

To me it looks like your friend's trust you enough to get the answers they need. I hope it turns out well for all of them. Like us they have a hard journey ahead of them. Keep up the good work you are doing. Take care. Still Totally ADD

Joe many years ago when I was first appointed an elder a older elder told me those who are supper righteous and talk about certain sexual sins all the time are guilty of it. I found that to be very true through the years. This guy is a pervert and hearing from voters who are still backing this slime ball I can see men have a lot of evolving yet to take place. Please guys when walking please don't drag your knuckles on the sidewalk. LOL. Still Totally ADD

Berrygerry, I can see why you are so concern about your mother. My thoughts are your parents may not be getting the right nutrition. Living in Florida for 40 years and being in mostly elderly congregations we would see from time to time older ones going off the deep end. Nine times out of ten after they got medical care it was found out they was not eating right. Their body chemistry was all out of whack. I remember one old fellow his wife had just died after a few months he was doing crazy things. After getting him to doctor we found out he was eating nothing but turnips.

It may be something else but you may want to look into this. The mind can really play a lot of tricks on us if it is not being fed properly. Then you add the crazy teachings of the cult you can see how this may be happening. I know this experience really sucks and I feel for you but there may be a reason for her thinking. how do we explain the marital role with what paul said in 1 cor.

“but i want you to realize that the head of every man is christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of christ is god.” (niv).

read a few chapters earlier at 1 corinthians 7 to see what paul does say about the relationships between husband and wife.

When in the cult I heard many times the wives say there husband's may be the head but I am the neck that turns his head. The humans who own the penis does not make them great and wonderful they just have a longer track to pee through. My thought for the day. LOL Still Totally ADD

Hell flipper I have been out 7 years I don't recognize it. My dad died in 2009 if he was able to come back to life right now he would not recognize it. It is like the old TV show "Outer Limits". When they said ( Do not touch that dial we are in control of what you are watching). Those poor cult members don't realize they are not in control. Still Totally ADD

I am grateful for leaving the watchtower corporation. Innit!

i dislike long topics......so here it is.. i suffered for my religion, now it's your turn.. when i first left the corporation my life exploded into a suicidal chaos.. my family broke up.

i lost my so called friends.. luckily, i had worldly friends from all walks of life that supported me, even though they had no idea why i was so suicidal.

in as much as they hadn't left cults.. i went from the corporation to a baptist church.

Hey punk I went through some of the things you did. I also went to a local community Church for about 6 months and came to the conclusion of there being no god. The depression, anxiety and self doubt over whelm me foe a while. After about a year I started to pick myself and found a part time job. At that point my self esteem came back.

A week does not go by where I am telling our new friends how destructive this cult is. I look at the cult as slow death by malnutrition where you get weaker and weaker.

I have been reading a lot lately one of my favorite authors is Robert Fulghum. I am in the middle of one of his first books "All I Really Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten" Uncommon Thoughts On Common Things. His books consist of many 2-4 page stories. They are simple to read but have deep meanings. They are uplifting, funny and sobering. For a guy like me with ADD his books are perfect. For me I find his writings help to see were I am and were I am going.

Here in the U.S. listening to much to politics is like banging your head against a wall. Please forgive my ignorance by asking this. What are your books about? Cult did teach us one thing advertise, advertise, advertise. Thank you for your insightful post. Still Totally ADD
